A community of Christians who want to know Jesus and make him known.
We are a Christian, reformed, evangelical church.
That means that we’re on about Jesus, and we believe the Bible tells us all we need in order to know him and to live for him.
Each week at Church we read the Bible and hear it explained and we seek to live our lives shaped by it.
We believe that the Bible is God’s word, that it has been fully inspired by God, and is God speaking to us. We believe we need to be immersed in it as we live in this world. It is our ultimate standard in all matters of faith and practice.
We believe that Salvation is by grace alone through faith alone in Jesus Christ alone. We are part of the Presbyterian Church of Queensland. We think that the best summary of what we believe is found in the Westminster Confession of Faith. You can read the Westminster Confession here.
At St Andrew’s we are on about knowing Jesus and making him known.
Jesus himself tells us what we should be on about just before he ascends back to heaven.
“18 And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.”” – Matthew 28:18-20
Jesus says we are to make disciples of all nations. This is what we are on about at St Andrew’s, it shapes all we do as a church, it shapes our ministries, and it shapes our lives. Thankfully, he’s with us and has all authority so we do this by his authority always trusting in him.
As we make disciples, there are two things we seek to do, firstly we aim to bring people into the kingdom (baptising is a sign of welcome). We do this by sharing and proclaiming the gospel. Secondly, we grow as followers of Jesus by listening to his word and applying it to our lives (teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you).
You’ll often hear us talking about ‘knowing Jesus and making him known’, or ‘growing and making disciples.’ These phrases help to remind us of the mission Jesus gave his people.
St Andrew’s is Presbyterian in government, reformed in theology, and evangelical in spirit.
